‘Outstanding’ £52m midfielder decides he’d rather join Arsenal than Chelsea.

One of the best young midfielders in the Premier League right now is Everton’s 22-year-old Madou Onana. Recent transfer rumors have suggested that Mauricio Pochettino’s team would be considering inviting the Belgium international to Stamford Bridge this season. Madou Onana might pose a serious challenge for Chelsea to sign from rivals Arsenal.

Nieuwsblad Sport reported earlier this week that Chelsea is among the group of clubs interested in signing £52m-rated Onana from Everton. Apparently, Arsenal have made the first move for the defensive midfielder, who’s also liked by European giants Manchester United and Barcelona.

Amadou Onana would prefer Arsenal over Chelsea

Onana would prefer to join with Arsenal over Chelsea, per a TEAMtalk article that was posted today.

Blues fans had the wonderful pleasure to watch one of Belgium’s all-time greats, Eden Hazard, for a number of years, but it seems like they might decide against signing him. Onana’s physicality has made him seem like a man made for the Premier League since the team moved to Goodison Park in 2022.

We’re convinced that the 22-year-olds got the quality and potential to join pretty much any side in the top division. However, it may not be the worst thing that he doesn’t want to join Chelsea as the Blues are stacked in the central midfield position right now. Described as “outstanding” by Darren Bent on X, Onana’s an all-action midfielder that could be serious value for money.

However, Chelsea decided to spend a lot of money on Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez in 2023. Even if the Blues midfielders have made a significant investment, the team needs to be patient with them as they struggle to find their best form this season.

Although we hope Chelsea now has every component needed to assemble a world-class midfield, things might take some time to develop under Pochettino.
