Lawrence Shankland Rangers transfer surprise as possible Hearts stay hinted

Surprise Lawrence Shankland Rangers transfer while a potential Hearts stay is suggested.

Barry Ferguson expressed his amazement that Hearts’ commitment to hold onto striker Lawrence Shankland had not been put to the test by Rangers.

Although a bid has not yet been made, the Tynecastle frontman has been strongly linked to a move to Ibrox during the January transfer window.

Hearts are reportedly seeking $5 million for their star player, but it’s unclear if Rangers will match that amount.

Although Ferguson feels Shankland would be a perfect match for Philippe Clement’s team, he also believes the Scotland international might decide to stay in the city.

He stated in the Daily Record: “I think Clement will be looking for a striker, and he must have his eye on a winger.

“Silva can operate in all of these positions and could also be deployed as a No.10. I think Clement identified him because of that versatility. But he knows the importance of having a proven goalscorer leading the attack and that’s why the name of Lawrence Shankland keeps coming up in the conversation. Shankland can play in more than one role too which is another string to his bow. He has proved at Hearts that he can operate in deeper areas and play behind a main striker.

“However, he appears to be an exact replica of a Rangers No. 9, so I’m actually a bit shocked that Tynecastle hasn’t received a formal offer yet, if only to test their willpower. Give Hearts a choice, at the absolute least. Because third place in the league may earn them about £6 million in European qualification, they might feel it’s not worth contemplating.

“Maybe Shankland would rather sign a new contract and serve as the team’s captain going forward? Or does he envision himself performing with a huge club on the grandest stage of all? Who knows? However, it’s definitely worthwhile to pose the query and observe how things develop from there. For this reason, the events of the next few weeks will be as.
