Journalist tells Jim White what he’s heard about Everton interest in Che Adams as Southampton asking price revealed.

Alex Crook reports that Everton has rekindled its interest in acquiring Southampton attacker Che Adams during the January transfer window. Speaking with talkSPORT host Jim White on Friday, January 12, at 11:55 a.m., the journalist disclosed that a few days prior, he had been informed by someone that the Toffees were “potential suitors” to recruit the Scotland international.

The 27-year-old’s contract expires at the conclusion of the current campaign, and he added that the Saints are in a “vulnerable” position because of this. He also said that the Championship club is seeking a sum of about £6 million to allow him to depart this month. White enquired, “What is Southampton up to with their player Che Adams?”

“Well, he’s got six months left on his contract, so that obviously makes the selling club vulnerable,” said Crook. “At the moment, there has not been any sign that he will sign a new deal.

“There is some Premier League interest in Che Adams. Wolves, Crystal Palace and even Everton were mentioned to me as potential suitors a couple of days ago. They’ve been in for him in the past. The figure I’m told it would take to get him out of St Mary’s is £6million.”

It would be a slightly surprising move if Everton were to go back in for Adams after missing out on a deal to bring him to Goodison Park over the summer.

This is because, after failing to get Adams, they signed Portuguese forward Beto, and Sean Dyche probably used the money he had left over to bolster other positions in his team.

The Toffees’ precarious financial state raises doubts about whether he would receive any compensation, thus departures are more likely this month.

The Blues manager is presumably presently searching the loan market for possible signings, and considering the Scotsman’s contract status, it is quite doubtful Southampton would approve a move of that kind for him.

He’s only scored six goals in 22 Championship games this season, so even if they could find the money to acquire him, it might not be a wise investment.
