Aston Villa star could leave after club makes contact.
Al-Hilal, a Saudi Premier League team, has allegedly “made contact” with Aston Villa over the recruitment of Lucas Digne. Now that the season is just over halfway over, Unai Emery’s team is sitting in second place, setting up an unexpected title contest.
To strengthen the starting eleven, the Spanish manager has brought in several new players and revitalized a large portion of the team. Digne, who has played in all but the last two Premier League games due to injury, is one member of the Aston Villa squad who has been a constant.
His consistent performances from left-back have attracted a lot of attention from abroad including Saudi Pro-League side Al-Hilal. According to French outlet L’Equipe via Birmingham Live, the Saudi club ‘made contact’ with Aston Villa over a loan move with an option to buy.
With two years remaining on his contract at Villa Park, Emery is obviously in favor of the 30-year-old French defender. However, the Spanish manager does have an alternative in Alex Moreno, and because Digne is now out due to injury, this would be the ideal time to give him a go.
