Aston Villa handed double boost because of Premier League rule ahead of Everton clash.

After the 2023–24 season passed the halfway point, a Premier League rule has officially gone into effect, giving Aston Villa one less thing to worry about ahead of their trip to Everton on Sunday.

The higher yellow card threshold is a comfort for players who were previously treading carefully when it came to suspension. According to Premier League regulations, a player will miss one match if they are booked five times in their team’s first 19 games.

Both Jhon Duran and Nicolo Zaniolo have received four yellow cards, but since Villa has played 20 games, they will not be disciplined. A two-match punishment will be imposed upon reaching 10 bookings in 32 games, but it is a very distant goal.

John McGinn, who received his fifth yellow card during the 3-2 victory over Burnley, was also on the verge of a suspension. Had the captain had a booking one game prior, he would not have been present for that specific match.

Reaching the 20-game milestone also brings relief to Everton, since Ashley Young, Abdoulaye Doucoure, and Nathan Patterson are all on four yellow cards. The Goodison Park match on Sunday will begin at 2:00 PM and be televised live on Sky Sport.
