Sources: Rangers offer for Liverpool starlet rejected
Football Insider has been informed by sources that Rangers’ bid for Liverpool left-back Owen Beck has been turned down.
The Gers are thought to have contacted the Reds in an attempt to sign the 21-year-old on a temporary loan for the balance of the campaign. However, because of Liverpool’s lack of depth at left-back—mainly as a result of Andy Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas’s long-term injuries—Jurgen Klopp’s team rejected their offer.
The senior duo are not expected to make a playing return until the end of January after both suffering serious shoulder injuries.
Joe Gomez has deputized for Robertson and Tsimikas during their absences and has performed admirably during the last three weeks in what is an unfamiliar role. Beck was recalled from his loan at Dundee this month after a successful spell where he notched two goals and two assists across 17 league starts. Rangers remain in the market for a left-back in January with Ridvan Yilmaz expected to depart.
Football Insider (January 10, 2019) revealed that Yilmaz is in talks to quit the team, with Serie A team Verona advancing in their pursuit. Beck’s loan stint in Scotland was terminated this month, along with that of Nat Phillips and Rhys Williams, who returned from Celtic and Aberdeen, respectively.
Following his recall, Klopp gave the Wales youth international high praise for his time with the Dee, stating that he had made “big steps.” Although Clement still needs defensive cover, the team is aggressively looking for other attackers to bolster their offense.
Following the historic coup of Wolves’ Fabio Silva, sources have told Football Insider (January 5) that they are working on adding a second forward during the January transfer window. During the winter break, Rangers are second in the league. On January 20, they will play Dumbarton in the Scottish Cup. In other news, Rangers are reportedly in talks to sign an international star and former Chelsea player.
