Report:Are the Saints preparing to clean house after latest rumors?

If Jeff Duncan’s reports are any indication, the offseason for the New Orleans Saints will be exciting. Duncan said on Twitter on Tuesday that Mickey Loomis informed the players of the adjustments made this off-season when he spoke with them following Dennis Allen’s farewell speech to the club this season.

“Monday’s meeting was to set the tone for the off-season: Are you in? Duncan mentioned in his follow-up. You’ll probably be out if not.Consequently, when misfortune struck this season, some areas of the Saints locker room broke apart.

Team officials are evaluating how that happened & what should be done about it. Monday’s meeting was to set the tone for the off season: Are you in? If not, then you’ll likely be out.

Are the Saints going to hit the reset button?

To be honest, I wouldn’t be shocked if the Saints decided to look into rebuilding during the offseason. Changes will need to be made this spring because they are now sitting in the red ($72 million over the cap, to be exact).

The Saints’ approach to handling their cap predicament in the past has been to put it off and deal with it later. It may have finally arrived, and while the Saints go through this patch, it won’t be nice.

A lot of fans thought last year might be when the Saints took their lumps and started rebuilding but they ended up signing Derek Carr to a four-year, $150 million deal. They’ve had to keep players who haven’t helped them much due to this approach too because it’s cheaper for them to hold onto ineffective players than to cut ties with them (Andrus Peat is an example of this).

It may indicate that the Saints will be active in the trade market if players are aware that things are going to get difficult and that some of them want to leave. They would be able to build for the future and acquire draft picks as a result.

For Saints fans, the upcoming years may not be easy.
