Rangers: Deal agreed for Sam Lammers to exit Ibrox on loan, transfer will be complete within 48 hours
On Tuesday night, January 9, the broadcaster announced on their website that 26-year-old Lammers will finish his loan departure from Ibrox within the next 48 hours. The Dutch forward was purchased by Michael Beale from Sampdoria for £3.5 million in the summer, but he hasn’t performed well in Scotland under the direction of former Gers manager and current manager Philippe Clement.
Although Lammers should be entirely cut loose by Rangers, it seems sense that teams won’t be lining up to pay for the forward on a full-time basis. Due to Lammers’ 2027 contract with Ibrox, it will be extremely difficult to let him go. It will be hard to get the money back that was spent on him.
Lammers has scored just two goals in 31 appearances across all competitions for the Light Blues since arriving in the summer from Sampdoria, who were no doubt laughing their way to the bank when that multi-million deal went through.
Though he’s mostly been used as a number 10 behind the equally awful Cyriel Dessers, Clement has finally had enough wisdom to rectify one of Beale’s numerous transgressions. Lammers has a strong track record in the Eredivisie, having scored 20 goals in 51 games during stints with PSV and Heerenveen.
If you take out the two Old Firm teams and the big boys like PSV, Ajax, and Feyenoord, that league is arguably on par with the Scottish Premiership in terms of quality. At times, athletes may perform exceptionally well in certain leagues but not in others. But we don’t want to hear from supporters that Lammers ought to be given another chance if he does well at Utrecht.
