Rangers consider January loan options for Hogarth in Ibrox transfer news
According to the Daily Record, Rangers are thinking at loan options for defender Jay Hogarth, and teams from the Scottish Championship and League One are keen.
According to the newspaper’s transfer blog [9 January, 11:19], Rangers think the defender can advance further with more frequent first-team play.
After the defender enjoyed success in the Scottish Championship with Alloa Athletic, the Ibrox club is now trying to find a method to get him back on the field on a regular basis.
An uncertain future
While it is claimed that Rangers believe he can take a step up in his career and his ability if he is handed more game time away from the club on loan, questions will arise as to whether his long-term future will remain at Ibrox.
As demonstrated by Ross McCausland this season, he is past the normal age at which a young talent should break through into the first team, and a loan to the Scottish Championship or even League One would not be appropriate for him at this point in his development.
The evidence that he can step up and take on that position would already be there if his future at Rangers was with the first team; but, another Championship loan would not be on par with that.
However, if the idea is for him to continue to progress away from Rangers before ultimately being sold, the question will remain as to why they don’t just allow him to leave on a permanent deal already rather than continue loan spells elsewhere.
