Everton ‘very close’ to another P&S breach as £100m Jarrad Branthwaite transfer update emerges

Luke Edwards has claimed Everton are very close to another profit and sustainability breach, which has put clubs on alert as they circle a January transfer move for Jarrad Branthwaite.

Despite a £100 million price tag, the Daily Mail journalist did reassure supporters that Everton is unlikely to trade the defender in January, even though there is plenty of interest.

He went on to warn that the club would have to sell a key player during the January transfer window due to their precarious financial status.

He went on to warn that the club would have to sell a key player during the January transfer window due to their precarious financial status.

Edwards was speaking to the BBC Transfer Gossip Daily podcast [9 January] where he shared: “The rumours in football are that Everton are still very, very close to another profit and sustainability breach. They’ve already been docked ten points.

Regretfully, this indicates that vultures will now circle. It seems improbable that Branthwaite will be sold this month; the asking price to sign him is likely in the range of £80–90–100 million.

“Everyone will be scouting him, and Everton knows they have a real valuable gem on their hands. He will be in high demand.” From an Everton standpoint, I’m just concerned that because 777 has given them additional funding, the takeover is on pause.

“Everton are still in a precarious financial position and unfortunately, I do worry that before the end of this month, Everton are going to have sold someone.”

Tricky times at Goodison Park

The transfer window has not been easy for Sean Dyche’s team due to the continuous uncertainty around the potential 777 Partners purchase, as well as concerns about sustainability and profit as well as ongoing investigations into another possible breach.

Real Madrid has reportedly expressed interest in signing Branthwaite, and Amadou Onana has been strongly linked to a move to either Manchester United or Arsenal. With the possibility of one sale, both players may be leaving.

Should they lose either of their star players in January, with further investment looking unlikely due to the financial situation at Goodison, Dyche and Everton will have suffered a bitter blow in their fight for survival.

Things seem to be going from bad to work for the club so far this season, and if there is any light at the end of the tunnel it is the faint hope of a takeover deal being agreed upon soon, but yet another financial concern on top of a player exit is not good news. This season, things appear to be going from bad to worse for the team. The only bright spot may be the slim possibility of a takeover agreement being reached soon, but losing a player and having to deal with yet another financial issue is not ideal.
