Aston Villa, Arsenal vying for Leonardo Spinazzola

Aston Villa and Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing 30-year-old Italian international Leonardo Spinazzola from AS Roma.

Leonardo Spinazzola may not have a long future at AS Roma, per a report by La Roma 24. The Premier League is showing interest in the 30-year-old. This year, Arsenal and Aston Villa are eager to have him on board.

Who is Leonardo Spinazzola?

Leonardo Spinazzola has been one of the best full-backs in Serie A for several years. A former trainee at ACR Siena and Juventus, he graduated from the Juventus youth division over a decade ago but had to wait until 2019 to make his first-team debut for the Bianconeri. Instead, the Italian international embarked on loan spells at seven clubs.

The 30-year-old has finally gained prominence since joining AS Roma from Juventus in July 2019. Spinazzola has been a regular for the GIallorossi in the last four and a half years. The player has done well to bounce back from a long-term injury he sustained during UEFA Euro 2020.

Spinazzola has been on and off the club this season, playing in 17 games for a total of 989 minutes and contributing one goal and three assists. But he’s still in high demand; prominent Premier League teams Arsenal and Aston Villa are interested in signing him.

As for Aston Villa, Unai Emery wants a new left-back in his squad. He chased Marcos Acuna in the summer transfer window, with the World Cup winner still on his radar. But Leonardo Spinazzola is also a viable target for the Midlands outfit.

In the summer transfer window of 2024, left-backs are in high demand from Arsenal and Aston Villa. Whether the two dominant teams in the Premier League can persuade AS Roma to cut ties with the 30-year-old Italian international this season will be interesting to watch.
