Aston Villa could sign “complete” £25m Leon Bailey rival

Aston Villa, who suffered a shocking loss to Stevenage Town at the same level, banished the demons of 2023 and advanced to the FA Cup’s fourth round over the weekend.Unai Emery made sure that error didn’t happen again, and he can now dedicate a few more weeks to his Premier League work.

The January transfer market is currently open. The Spaniard may wish to boost his squad this month if he hopes to break Villa’s 28-year trophy drought this season. A number of stars have already been linked to a move to the Midlands.

Aston Villa transfer news – Crysencio Summerville

According to journalist Pete O’Rourke in his latest Football Insider column, Villa are big admirers of Leeds United winger Crysencio Summerville, who has lit up the Championship this season.

They aren’t the only Premier League outfit keen on signing him, however, as Brighton and Hove Albion are rivalling Villa, while even Liverpool have shown interest of late, making him a hot commodity.

Leeds are reportedly unlikely to accept an offer this month due to the fact they are trying to achieve promotion, but if their form drops, their stance could change heading into the summer with Dean Jones telling GIVEMESPORT last year that a £25m fee may well be required.

Emery can call on Leon Bailey and Moussa Diaby to perform on the right wing, yet the Frenchman has tended to operate in a more advanced role this term and making a move for Summerville could give Bailey a rival for a spot on the flank.

How Crysencio Summerville compares to Leon Bailey

Under Emery, Bailey has found a new lease on life as the winger has contributed 17 goals to 27 games this season (nine goals and eight assists). The former Bayer Leverkusen star also ranks third for successful dribbles per game (1.2) and fifth for major chances created (five) in the Villa squad, demonstrating that his contributions to the team go beyond merely goals.

These figures are impressive, but Summerville’s performance in the same time frame indicates that he might be a serious contender for Bailey’s right flank spot. The talented Dutchman has shone this term so far, registering 12 goals and six assists in just 23 second-tier matches as he aims to propel Leeds back to the promised land.

The £16k-per-week starlet is presently leading the team in assists and goals (18), and behind only in huge opportunities created (12), crucial passes made per game (three), and successful dribbles made per game (2.6), demonstrating that he is capable of more than simply clinical play in front of goal. Despite the fact that Bailey, 22, is competing in a lower division, these numbers are actually better than what he has recorded.

Despite the fact that his four topflight goals from the previous season are a far cry from his fantastic 2023–2024 totals, it shows that he can step up when called upon. He was called “complete” by journalist Suleyman Özturk in October of last year, and Emery might soon make Bailey nervous by going after the Dutch star.
