Michael Carrick makes ‘one of the best’ claim after Aston Villa knock Middlesbrough out of FA Cup.

Michael Carrick, the manager of Middlesbrough, described Aston Villa as “one of the best teams around” after his team was eliminated from the FA Cup.

Thanks to a late deflection goal by Matty Cash, Villa advanced to the round four on Teesside. Following the game, Carrick

expressed his pride in his team’s performance against Unai Emery’s squad.

He made care to compliment Villa as well, ranking them as one of the top football teams at the moment.

The former Birmingham City loanee “felt for” his players after the match because of the impressive performance they put in.

“Hugely proud,” Carrick told BBC Sport. “The disappointment the lads are feeling shows how well we performed in the game.

It was not easy against such a good team. We had good moments, when we had the chance to play we had some good connections and looked dangerous at times.

“I feel bad for the boys because they worked really hard, but it will boost our confidence heading into the Carabao Cup semifinal next week.

“This teaches us so much. I’m hoping the lads will learn a lot from it. Villa is among the top teams in the world right now.
