Falcons WATCH: Bijan Robinson Makes History, Scores 71-Yard TD at Saints
In the Atlanta Falcons’ (7-9) game against the New Orleans Saints (8-8) in Caesars Superdome on Sunday, the offense is off to its best start of the year.Following a seven-play, 94-yard touchdown drive on their opening series, the Falcons made a forceful comeback to the field.Five minutes remained in the first quarter and the Falcons were tied 7–7. Desmond Ridder, the quarterback, looked left and found running back Bijan Robinson on a wheel route.
Some 71 yards later, Robinson was in the endzone, celebrating the longest touchdown of his young career. With quarterback Taylor Heinicke inactive due to a left ankle injury, Ridder received the start – and has now completed all five of his passes for 157 yards and touchdowns.
As for Robinson, the 71-yard gain puts him 45 yards away from becoming the third player in Falcons history with 500 rushing and receiving yards in the same season. He’d join Devonta Freeman and Cordarrelle Patterson, who did so in 2015 and 2021, respectively.
Robinson broke the record for the most scrimmage yards by a rookie in team history early in the game, amassing 87 yards in just the first quarter. He was tied with William Andrews going into the game.
To surpass Tyler Allgeier’s franchise record of 1,035 running yards by a rookie, which was set last season, Robinson needs to gain 78 rushing yards during the last three quarters.Atlanta, on the other hand, needs to defeat the Carolina Panthers and the Tampa Bay Bucs in order to win the NFC South. If its offense continues to click, it could be able to handle business.
