Commanders WATCH: Rookie Quan Martin Interception on Dak
Despite missing a number of players, the Washington Commanders are still exerting pressure on the Dallas Cowboys. Washington’s selection in the second round, Quan Martin, intercepted Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott following a pass that was swatted down at the line of scrimmage.

Martin was a surprise selection by the Commanders with the No. 47 overall pick in the NFL Draft. “Martin is a versatile defensive back with significant experience at outside corner and slot corner, but he’ll likely spend more time in deeper safety alignments at the NFL level,” SI Draft Bible writes.

Now that Martin is part of the team, the Commanders are demonstrating a willingness to improve the secondary in multiple areas. Martin is anticipated to start at cornerback while fellow rookie Emmanuel Forbes plays safety. Despite playing opposite positions in the secondary, both players share a comparable level of versatility.

Although Martin can match up well with tight ends in the slot, SI Draft Bible notes that he doesn’t always seem to be able to mirror and remain attached to wide receivers. “The versatile defender has a bad habit of getting grabby downfield, which will draw yellow flags in the pros.” In the second quarter, the Commanders and Cowboys are deadlocked.
