Houston Astros Claim Former Chicago White Sox Reliever Off Waivers
Recently, the Chicago White Sox DFA’d right-hand pitcher Declan Cronin. It appears that the Houston Astros have claimed him.
Declan Cronin, a right-handed pitcher, was claimed by the Houston Astros off waivers. The Chicago White Sox had just designated him for assignment.
In 2019, the White Sox selected 26-year-old Cronin out of Holy Cross. In 2023, he pitched in nine games for the White Sox in his major league debut. With a 9.00 ERA, he went 0-1 for Chicago, who placed fourth in the American League Central.
Evidently, Houston sees something they like and may be looking to add him to the bullpen mix in 2024. The Astros could be looking at some opportunity out there, as Hector Neris is a free agent this offseason.
Houston has demonstrated an ability to improve players who were cut by previous teams, so maybe they can do the same here.
Last season, the Astros advanced to the American League Championship Series after winning the American League West. The Texas Rangers defeated them in seven games after they had defeated the Twins in the ALDS.
After winning the World Series, Texas became the champion from the AL West for the second year in a row. The title was won by Houston in 2022. In 2017, they also triumphed.
