Aston Villa could lose player for free as six big contract decisions loom
BirminghamLive provides Aston Villa news as the team prepares to lose Bertrand Traore for nothing at the conclusion of the season.
Bertrand Traore could leave Aston Villa for free in the summer, while five other players will have one year left on their current contracts when this one ends.
Villa has one more chance to raise money from Traore this month. Traore joined the team in the summer of 2020. He has not yet played in the league this season.
Leon Bailey, Calum Chambers, Kortney Hause, Robin Olsen and Morgan Sanson are the five players who have already entered the final two years of their deals. Here is the breakdown…
The winger has only made two Premier League appearances this season, amounting to ten minutes of action off the bench in Villa’s wins over Burnley and Luton Town. He has played another 12 minutes across three Europa Conference League group stage matches.
Despite his injury issues this season, he will be traveling to AFCON after returning from the November international break hurt.
After starting just one Premier League game since Emery’s arrival in November 2022—during Tyrone Mings’ absence from the encounter against Man City back in February—the defender may depart Villa in January. Although Chambers has only made three appearances this season across all competitions, he has not yet made an appearance in the league.
Although he arrived from Arsenal in January 2022, it doesn’t seem like he will stay at the team.
Hause returned to full training at Bodymoor Heath on Wednesday over 15 months since making his last competitive appearance which came while he was on loan at Watford. The centre-back was left out of Villa’s 25-man squad for the 2023/24 season and could leave the club in the January window.
Hause underwent surgery on a knee injury having only made three appearances for the Championship side. He last featured in a matchday squad against Wigan Athletic on October 29, 2022 and hasn’t made a competitive appearance since mid-September of that year.
Bailey will enter the final 12 months of his Villa contract at the end of his season unless he pens fresh terms and it is crucial his stay at the club is extended. Few players in the Premier League have shown better form than him this term, certainly not wingers who often blow hot and cold. Bailey, however, has been consistently brilliant this term.
Having only started only two of Villa’s first 12 league games, where he chipped in with six goal involvements, he has since started six of the club’s last eight league matches, notching five contributions in that time.

ROBIN OLSEN
At the end of the season, Olsen will also begin the last 12 months of his current Villa contract. This season, he has made five appearances, one of which was against Burnley in the Premier League back in August.
The contract duration for Olsen was similarly left out of the statement when his permanent move was finalized in 2022, but the former shot-stopper assisted in providing clarification on social media. Not long after the announcement of the signing, he wrote on Instagram, saying, “Very happy to be a part of this club the next three years.” UTV

MORGAN SANSON
Sanson has appeared in all 17 of the French team’s league games this season while on loan at Nice in Ligue 1. The 29-year-old has one more year and a half left on his Villa deal, after which he can pick a new home this summer.
After a lackluster few years at Villa, Nice are now second in the table, and his loan stay has undoubtedly maintained his value in the market.
