Mike McCarthy’s eye-opening Dalvin Cook take sparks Cowboys signing speculation

Mike McCarthy’s eye-opening Dalvin Cook take sparks Cowboys signing speculation.

Dalvin Cook, a running back, and the New York Jets recently split up. Cook has been connected to several teams, Dallas Cowboys included.

Mike McCarthy, the head coach of the Cowboys, recently spoke well of Cook in a statement. Due to McCarthy’s remarks, there was conjecture that Cook may sign with Dallas.

McCarthy remarked, “Obviously, I have a great deal of respect for him. I played against him several times when Dalvin was in Minnesota.” “I hold him in the highest regard.”

The Jets signed Cook for the 2023 season but the partnership ultimately did not go according to plan. Cook was once regarded as one of the best players in the entire NFL. The Minnesota Vikings made the surprising decision to move on from Cook following the 2022 campaign, which led to New York signing him.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, via Tom Pelissero, teams will be debating whether Cook is a better option than some of the “young running backs on the roster.” Cook “may be an interesting piece for a team in the playoffs,” according to Rapoport.

Will Cook be signed by the Cowboys? His NFL background will undoubtedly draw Dallas in.

Cowboys a potential landing destination for Dalvin Cook

Cook made four consecutive Pro Bowls with the Vikings from 2019-2022. He is still only 28-years old and should be able to perform at a respectable level if given the opportunity. Maybe Cook won’t be one of the best running backs in the league, but he could help a team in the postseason.

Cook did, however, only rush for 214 yards and zero touchdowns in 15 games (one of which he started) with the Jets in 2023. After Aaron Rodgers’ injury, New York struggled all season, so Cook could gain from a change of scenery.

Right now, Tony Pollard is in charge of Dallas’ rushing offense. By all means, it wouldn’t hurt to add Cook. After the arduous regular season, every club is aware of how important depth is in the playoffs.

It’s safe to assume that the Cowboys are at least thinking about signing Dalvin Cook in light of McCarthy’s remarks.
