Philippe Clement questions confusing Rangers penalty concession after Celtic snub
The manager of Ibrox was baffled by his team’s penalty-giving this afternoon against Kilmarnock.
Days after the dramatic Celtic spot-kick incident at Parkhead, Philippe Clement has questioned the “bizarre” decision to give
Kilmarnock a penalty against his Rangers team for a handball.
John Souttar was deemed to have handled the ball inside the area from a Killie cross and, following VAR’s intervention, the
penalty was given by referee John Beaton. Clement admitted at full-time on Gers TV he was confused at the situation following
Alistair Johnston’s handball in the derby last Saturday.
The Belgian expressed his dissatisfaction at the call that lost his team a clean sheet in their 3-1 victory at Ibrox today, implying
that he feels he is no longer able to define what handball is and is not.
“The only downside for me is that I can’t explain to my players any more what is handball and what is not after this game after
conceding a penalty and a goal like this three days after what happened at Celtic Park,” he stated. “It’s different being a manager
when you can’t explain things to them. I can’t give them an explanation.”
