Jerry Jones views the legendary Cowboys player as a possible head coach.

Although it seems like head coach Mike McCarthy of the Dallas Cowboys will be staying in the role for the time being, owner Jerry Jones of the team might still plan for a replacement in the future.

Jones stated he saw a resemblance between Dan Campbell and a Dallas great, despite the fact that Campbell and the Detroit Lions will play his team on Saturday.

Jones told The Dallas Morning News, “I really thought that the kind of thing that we see in Dan is so football-appropriate for the game.””Really, every time I look at him, I see Jason Witten.”

This doesn’t appear to be imminent by any means. Jones made it clear if there were any decisions to be made in regard to the head coaching job about an extension, or lack thereof, that would take place in the offseason.

“That’ll have a course that seeks its own time frame,” Jones told NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport. “I don’t do anything of that sort until the season is over.”

Those discussions during the offseason would undoubtedly change if the Cowboys advanced to the postseason.

Regarding Witten’s coaching career, he has experience in the role. In fact, just this month, he guided Liberty Christian High School to the Division II state championship in the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools (TAPPS).

Days after he announced his retirement from the NFL after 17 seasons, 16 of which he spent with the Cowboys, he was hired.
