Micah Parsons Shows Frustration on Officials Following Cowboys’ Loss to Dolphins: ‘Free Me Dawg!!!’
After the Dallas Cowboys’ close loss to the Miami Dolphins on Sunday, linebacker Micah Parsons expressed his dissatisfaction to reporters and on social media about the officiating.
Parsons particularly took issue with the Dolphins not having any holding penalties called. He has now gone 38 straight quarters without receiving a holding penalty, per the team’s website. In spite of this, he has had a fantastic season, recording 53 total tackles, 13 sacks, and a career-high 30 quarterback hits.
Reflecting on the situation, Parsons remarked, “It’s mind-blowing, the things that are getting called, the positions we get put in. We just have to learn to fight the adversity and understand that a lot of it is BS. It’s football plays, but it’s the world we live in. We’ve got the star on the helmet.”
During the game, Parsons received a penalty for a hit on quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. He contested the call, stating, “[The official] said my intent was to punish the quarterback, but how am I trying to punish him if I’m just trying to sack him? It’s not like it’s a late hit. I didn’t leave my feet. I didn’t lead with my head. I don’t know how you make that call.”
Parsons went on, “I got there so quick,” expressing irritation at the way the definition of roughing the passer has changed over time. How could I possibly know that he had removed the ball? It happened in an instant. I stayed put on my feet. I lost my understanding of what a roughing the passer is because I stopped leading with my head. Actually, I bumped into D-Law. Our meeting place was the quarterback. As I already stated, playing defense is difficult.
Parsons took to social media and shared a picture of himself trying to escape from two Dolphins lineman on his Instagram Stories. The caption read, “Free me dawg!!!” I apologize for anything I did to the officials.
The game’s pivotal moment occurred in the final seconds as Miami kicker Jason Sanders sealed a 22–20 triumph. Even with the contentious officiating, Parsons finished the game with seven tackles.
