Erik ten Hag addresses Man Utd ‘attitude’ and reveals request for Aston Villa test
BirminghamLive provides the most recent Aston Villa news as United attempts to break their current winning streak when they host Villa in the Premier League.
Ahead of Aston Villa’s visit to Old Trafford, Erik ten Hag has insisted that his Manchester United players accept responsibility for their worst season opener in almost a century.
West Ham’s 2-0 victory over United last weekend extended United’s miserable streak. Following injuries in the team, Ten Hag started three teenagers: Alejandro Garnacho, Willy Kambwala, and Kobbie Mainoo.
Ten Hag’s side have lost four of their nine games at the Theatre of Dreams and need to improve their form. Villa on the other hand, have only lost three of the seven games played on the road so far this season.
“In every game they have to step up,” Ten Hag said. “I have spoken two or three times about responsibility.
I have to take responsibility and the players with me have to take responsibility.
“Maybe in moments you expect even more from the seniors, but when you are good enough you are also old enough so we have to do it together. It doesn’t matter what age they are – we have to put out a team to win the game
“Although we obviously know what the standards are at Manchester United and that we must succeed as a team, I’m not dissatisfied with the mentality. Collectively, we must accept responsibility, and each person must give it their all.”
The United manager believes his team will make up for their mistakes against the Hammers before taking on Villa. “To start, the meaning of the first goal,” he continued.
Villa is a different team when you exert as much control over the game as we did [against West Ham]. They make a fantastic team and are in excellent shape. You must seize opportunities if you are creating them. It’s obvious that you can’t win games if you don’t.”
