What’s Next: Bucs Stay Home to Seek Division Title Win vs. Saints
With a four-game winning streak in December, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have put themselves in position to win the NFC South Division for the third time in a row.
On New Year’s Eve, they will attempt to make it five straight in a game that might determine the division champion against the New Orleans Saints.
In Week 16, the Buccaneers thumped the visiting Jacksonville Jaguars 30-12, creating a 30-point lead in the third quarter
thanks to multiple defensive takeaways, two touchdown passes from Baker Mayfield to Mike Evans, and another flawless
performance from kicker Chase McLaughlin. This moved Tampa Bay’s record up to 8-7 and gave them a one-game lead over the
now 7-8 Saints and Atlanta Falcons. On Sunday, December 31, the Saints will visit Raymond James Stadium. Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m. ET.
New Orleans will be trying to rebound from a 30-22 Thursday Night Football loss to a red-hot Los Angeles Rams team in Week 16.
In Week Four, the Buccaneers defeated the Titans 26-9 in the Superdome to win the first meeting between these two teams in a
quite commanding manner. Derek Carr and company were limited to 197 yards of total offense by the Bucs defense, while Mayfield completed three touchdown passes.
If the Bucs defeat the Saints in Week 17, they will win the division. Week 18 may be very exciting if New Orleans wins, especially
if the 7-8 Atlanta Falcons beat the Bears in Chicago.
However, Tampa Bay still has control over its own fate and plays the 2-13 Carolina Panthers in the last week of the regular season.
