Everton midfielder Andre Gomes Transfer status Shared after goal v Tottenham Hotspur
Despite his goal against Tottenham over the weekend, Everton midfielder Andre Gomes’ time with the team is running out, the Daily Mail claims.
Despite his impressive comeback from injury, the English daily stated on its website on December 25 that his time at the team
seemed to be running out.
The 30-year-old is one of the highest paid players at Goodison Park, and it seems unlikely that his contract will be extended
when it expires at the end of the current campaign.
Right option?
When healthy, Gomes adds technical skill and experience to the club, which might help the team replace the hole left by injured
midfielders like Doucoure and Gueye.
His readiness to play again fits in nicely with the team’s current requirements, particularly with players qualifying for the Africa Cup of Nations.
But Everton faces financial risk in keeping Gomes given his history of injuries and his high salary.
The 30-year-old hasn’t always performed well, and his expenses can be more than his contributions.
It would seem reasonable to let go of the Portuguese midfielder given the Toffees’ desire for a more dependable and economical midfield.
With all of the obstacles the team is up against behind the scenes, this move will enable the team to focus on developing a more
durable and financially stable team for the future. In a perfect world, they could have sold him in January, but it makes sense to
keep him for an additional half-year considering the roster’s dearth of options and quality.
