‘Dead Spot!’ Dak Admits Failures, Talks on ‘The Narratives’
It’s currently a well-liked NFL catchphrase. The Dallas Cowboys, like with most others, use it as a strategy to diffuse tension,
divert even constructive criticism, and, in a sense, deceive oneself. It’s called “The Story.” The Cowboys led by Dak Prescott
might also be at a turning point in their efforts to distinguish the “deflection” from the minutiae.
Prescott described his team’s heart-stopping 22–20 loss in Miami on Christmas Eve as “frustrating,” adding that Dallas is now
just 3-5 away from home this year as a result of the setback. “We clearly improved upon our performance from last week’s game
—a 31-10 thrashing at Bufffalo—by scoring a few points. This one is on everyone and it stinks.
We need to improve on our performance against this formidable team that we faced on the road. Utilizing what works and
making sure we improve on what wasn’t up to par will be necessary.”
“Use the good” makes sense since, despite the Cowboys’ 10-5 loss, there was “good” here. However, it wouldn’t be wise to ignore
the negative aspects, such as the devastating penalties in pivotal situations, the offensive “dead spot” (according to Dak) that
lasted the second and third quarters, and, in the end, the game-winning field goal drive that the Dolphins were permitted to
make in the last seconds.
Prescott was questioned about “the narrative,” which holds that the Cowboys are unable to defeat strong teams on the road and
will, thus, struggle to win in the postseason. “I guess it feeds (the narrative), we didn’t come out with the win,” Prescott said.
However, I can assure you that this group has a great level of confidence. It’s awful. It aches. We haven’t done it yet, of course,
but we will. And it appears that we will be traveling (for the playoffs). “It’s about moving forward and understanding what’s ahead of us” added Prescott.
