Aston Villa now move to sign new £17m “assist machine” for Emery

Aston Villa are keen to strengthen in January to aid their title bid and have made contact with the current employers of an exciting young star over a potential deal, according to a report.

Aston Villa’s title challenge…

Aston Villa’s never-say-die spirit was evident on Friday night in the West Midlands when Nicolo Zaniolo’s header in the 98th minute sent Villa Park into a frenzy, rescuing a 1-1 draw at home against Sheffield United.

The Villans sit one point off the top of the table going into Christmas Day, despite dropping points against a team that is now in the relegation zone. They will fancy their chances against an inept Manchester United team on Boxing Day at Old Trafford.

After splitting the spoils with the Blades, Unai Emery expressed his gratitude for his players’ tenacity in salvaging a point from the jaws of defeat during his post-match press conference.

“I’m very happy with how we finished today after 15 matches winning in a row because each match is very difficult to win.”

Today they defended very well. We were controlling the match in the first half like we prepared. We didn’t score but we needed to be patient. I think the goal they refused with VAR is the moment we were being a little bit upset in our minds and we lost a little bit of control of the game. They created one or two chances to score and we needed to avoid chances like that. When they scored it was very difficult but we reacted very well, we scored and we drew. I’m very happy now we have 39 points.”

A total of 39 points is an impressive total as the Villans look to prolong their hunt for the title. A new report now suggests that they have made contact regarding the availability of an exciting attacker.

Aston Villa make contact over Samuel Iling-Junior

Samuel Iling-Junior is a winger, and according to Football Insider, Villa has contacted Juventus about him. His current employers are reportedly willing to approve his departure for a cost of about £17 million.

According to the source, Emery is looking to expand his options in the final third, and the Villans have requested information about the England Under-21 international. He may be one of two offensive arrivals in the West Midlands. Spurs are also interested in the former Chelsea academy player.

Iling-Junior, who has made seven Serie A appearances for Juventus this season and recorded one assist, has been dubbed a “assist machine” by journalist Michele Neri (Iling-Junior statistics – Transfermarkt).

Even so, it appears that he is firmly on the outside at the Allianz Stadium, and returning to England—possibly to Villa Park—might be the ideal next step to maintain his upward career trajectory.
