Rangers endorse ‘strong message’ against European Super League

Rangers Release statement on ‘Super League Project’ Stance

The European Club Association’s “strong message” about the “Super League project” has the support of Rangers.

The club association stated in a statement that the European Court of Justice’s decision “in no way whatsoever supports or endorses any form of Super League project”.

It further asserts that “the world of football moved on from the Super League years ago” in a harshly worded statement.

Rangers, who pledged to “uphold the true principles of European football,” have now approved the strong statement opposing the Super League project.

A post on X, formerly Twitter, read: “Rangers FC enjoys fantastic representation within @ECAEurope, and we reiterate and endorse their strong message on the ‘Super League project.’

“We will continue to work with ECA and UEFA to uphold the true principles of European football.”

The ECA statement read: “European Club Association (ECA), representing nearly 500 professional football clubs across Europe, takes note of the judgment issued by the European Court of Justice today.

“To be absolutely clear, the judgment in no way whatsoever supports or endorses any form of Super League project.

The football ecosystem in Europe and around the world has already undergone significant progressive governance reforms since the legal case was filed two years ago.

These reforms include new competition pre-authorization regulations established by UEFA and, more specifically, changes made in accordance with the ECA’s Memorandum of Understanding and Joint Venture with FIFA and UEFA, which were signed in September and March of this year. Clubs are already at the center of decision-making about the contests in which they compete thanks to ECA.

“In short, the world of football moved on from the Super League years ago and progressive reforms will continue.

“Most importantly, football is a social contract not a legal contract – all the recognized stakeholders of European and world football – spanning confederations, federations, clubs, leagues, players and fans – stand more united than ever against the attempts by a few individuals pursing personal agendas to undermine the very foundations and basic principles of European football.

“ECA is committed to working in tandem with UEFA, FIFA, and other acknowledged football stakeholders to advance the sport in a constructive and progressive manner, guided by the values of genuine solidarity, inclusiveness, open competition, and sporting meritocracy.

All rungs of the pyramid gain and flourish from these tenets, which also form the foundation of the European Sports Model and ECA.”
