Insider addresses job security of Saints HC Dennis Allen

Following the Saints’ 30-22 loss against the Los Angeles Rams on Thursday night, which reduced them to 7-8 on the

season, it seems that head coach Dennis Allen of the New Orleans Saints will not be fired.

NFL Network league insider Ian Rapoport stated, “From my understanding, Dennis Allen is in a good spot,” during a Friday

Head Coach Dennis Allen

interview on “The Insiders” program, which Chris Rosvoglou of The Spun tweeted. “Obviously, this is always open to

change if things go horribly wrong at the conclusion of the year. Things in life can change.

However, it is the current situation.”

In the competition for the NFC South division title, the Saints are trailing the 7-7 Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The 8–6 Jacksonville Jaguars will be Tampa Bay’s next opponent on Sunday. On December 31, the Saints will visit Raymond James Stadium.

Although Allen has a 14–18 overall record with the Saints, Derek Carr, the quarterback, and coach are practically a package

deal, according to Rapoport. The Saints are “already on the hook for $40M” according to the provisions of the contract Carr

signed this past offseason, according to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, who made this observation on Friday morning.

“One of the reasons is they’re not getting out of where they are anytime soon,” said Rapoport.

“Derek Carr is yours, and he is assured for next year. Were they able to move on? I’m not sure. I doubt they would wish to.

If they choose to, the cost is high. Your roster is still quite pricey, but it’s getting a little slower and older.”

Early on Friday night, the Buccaneers were the modest (-135) favorites over the Jaguars according to oddsschecker.

Prior to what may turn out to be a division-deciding Week 17 matchup in Florida, Allen and the Saints will be hoping to receive a Christmas surprise from Jacksonville.
