Aston Villa eye move for “important” player in January to bolster key area
According to a rumor, Aston Villa manager Unai Emery is eager to start his January hiring plans and has found an out-of-favor player who might support a vital area.
Aston Villa’s title charge…
With just one point separating them from league leaders Arsenal after 17 games played in the English top tier this season, it would be reasonable to assume that Aston Villa has become a serious contender for the Premier League crown under Emery.
When the Villans play Sheffield United at Villa Park on Friday night, they will be hoping to extend their winning streak to ten games. If they win, Emery’s team will have the opportunity to move up to the top of the table. The Villans are undefeated in their last nine games across all competitions.
Undoubtedly, it will be difficult for Emery’s men to continue their recent form to a point where they eventually find themselves crowned champions amid competition from the might of Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City, among others
Nevertheless, optimism is at an all-time high in the Midlands and realistically, why can’t Aston Villa go all the way if they continue to produce consistency when it matters? One inevitability of the Villans’ lofty standing is that other clubs will come calling for their star men in the coming windows and Football Insider claim that Brazilian midfielder Douglas Luiz continues to attract interest from Arsenal.
Although the Gunners have great respect for the 25-year-old, it is rumored that a January transfer would be extremely difficult for the team to carry off since Aston Villa will only consider offers for a sum of money close to £100 million. For devoted Villa followers, prospective arrivals are a considerably more exciting prospect, and Emery appears to have a striker in his eyes when the transfer window opens in 2024.
Timo Werner being watched by Aston Villa
According to Football Insider, Aston Villa are keen on RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner as Emery looks to add another option in the final third to his squad. Jhon Duran is likely to leave Villa Park on a loan basis in January and the Villans are hoping to acquire a forward to deputise for Ollie Watkins over the second portion of the campaign.
Germany international Werner is on the fringes at his current employers and has previous Premier League experience following his spell at Chelsea between 2020 and 2022. Leicester City star Kelechi Iheanacho is also believed to be a target for Emery and is available on a free transfer in the summer of 2024.
Werner, who was formerly referred to as “important” by former manager Thomas Tuchel, has made 14 appearances for RB Leipzig this season across all competitions, tallying one assist and two goals (Werner statistics – Transfermarkt).
In the future, the 27-year-old could provide Emery’s frontline some much-needed energy and experience as Aston Villa hopes for a magical season in the West Midlands.
