Ex-Everton Scout blasts Sean Dyche Notion at Goodison Park Despite Four Wins in a Row
Goodison News is delighted to welcome aboard our brilliant new columnist Bryan King, the former goalkeeper who spent over eight years as a scout at Everton and 28 years in total in first-team scouting roles. Bryan also spent six years on Tottenham’s recruitment team and 11 years scouting at Aston Villa across two different spells…
Despite the incredible turnaround Sean Dyche has overseen at Everton, Bryan King doesn’t think he should be a contender for manager of the season.
Even though the Premier League docked Dyche ten points last month, his team has rallied and won four straight games.
The Blues are currently seven points clear of the bottom three and sit 16th in the standings as a result. They would have been one point behind Manchester United in 10th place if they hadn’t been docked those ten points.
Even though Dyche has produced amazing results, King believes the managerial award should only go to those who win silverware.
Everton has advanced to the Carabao Cup quarterfinals and will take on Fulham on Tuesday night in an attempt to win the trophy. Next month, the Toffees will travel to face Crystal Palace in the FA Cup third round.
If King is going to give Dyche a managing award, it must come with a trophy for surviving.
King told Goodison News that he didn’t think Dyche could settle for the manager of the season honor. All he’s doing is his job.
“They’ve spent an awful lot of money at that football club, especially on players.
“Sean Dyche is a good manager and he was the right man to come in at that time. He saved them last year when they should’ve gone down but this year, under no fault of his own, they’ve been deduced these 10 points and they’re talking about a further deduction.
“I’ve always said after the 10 points, there are three or four clubs around who have given Everton a chance anyway and I think it’ll keep them up. It’ll be a big surprise to me if they go down with the way they’re going at the moment.
“If he manages to keep them up…This manager of the season award is not something I like. As the season’s manager, you undoubtedly need to generate new players and win anything. I believe his name might be included if he manages to win the FA Cup or the Carabao Cup, provided that they both remain relevant. Apart from that, I think the manager that succeeds is the one who has fulfilled his duties for the team, the supporters, and the community or city, and that will always be a significant aspect.
