Everton defender Ben Godfrey in line for rare Premier League start v Burnley as Injury Expert claim emerges

On Saturday, December 16, Everton’s defender Ben Godfrey might start his first Premier League match of the year against Burnley.

Michael Keane is a serious fitness doubt for this one, according to Injury Expert Ben Dinnery,

and a late fitness test will be required.

Jarrad Branthwaite, who’s been the mainstay at the heart of defence along with James Tarkowski, has been suspended for picking up five yellow cards.

This could open the door for Godfrey, not just to be drafted straight into the Toffees eleven, but also show Sean Dyche why he deserves to be at the club for the long term.

He arrived to much fanfare at Goodison Park as he impressed for Norwich City and was ready to take the step up in his career.

At the time, he was lauded as a future England international and he did go on to make a handful of appearances for Gareth Southgate’s Three Lions side

He was an unused substitute in the recent 2-0 win over Chelsea and if Keane does not recover in time, the 25-year-old could make his way into the side.

Godfrey has already shown that his adaptability can be a strength, so it will be interesting to see if Dyche can bring out the best in him.

The majority of supporters may not have been happy with his performance and health in recent months, therefore he may utilize this game to silence his detractors.
