The one Everton star who Sean Dyche must start over Dominic Calvert-Lewin v Burnley
Everton can expect to win against Burnley, who should be the worst team in the league, and might be in for an amazing fourth straight Premier League victory.
The Toffees appear to have turned around their home record after defeating a tough Nottingham Forest in their own stadium with two impressive victories over Newcastle United and Chelsea.
After eliminating three opponents who are all higher than them in the standings, the true test is about to begin. A six-pointer for relegation.
Sean Dyche returns to Turf Moor for the first time since his 2022 sacking, hoping to mirror the EFL Cup fixture from last month which saw Everton run out comfortable winners over Burnley.
However, to do so he will have to employ a few changes.
Whilst Jarrad Branthwaite and Idrissa Gana Gueye’s suspensions are frustrating, and Ashley Young’s injury will provide opportunity, it is Beto who arguably now deserves a start.
How good has Beto been for Everton?
With Dominic Calvert-Lewin having been nursed back to full fitness now, Dyche has relied heavily on the English marksman to spearhead his system.
Tall, strong, and willing, he runs quickly and gives his all for the team even when hurt. However, his wastefulness has increased in the last few weeks.
Although his anticipated goals tally is 5.81, the 26-year-old does have three Premier League goals to his credit. Something needs to give, and Beto’s performance against the Magpies last week undoubtedly raised his profile.
Pundit James McFadden, after all, would praise the move, saying, “This is really well worked, even though it looked like Everton were just going to wind the game down.”
Bruno Guimaraes loses his composure and chases it down, Everton switches it and then it’s put through to Beto. He shows pace, strength and unbelievable composure. This scoreline is a dream for Everton.’
The former Udinese man would certainly boast a better option than Arnaut Danjuma at least, were Dyche to rest Calvert-Lewin, given his hulking frame offers a more like-for-like swap.
Not to mention the boost he would provide to his colleagues and supporters, who seem to be infatuated with the £50k-per-week juggernaut.
He would terrorize Burnley’s backline all afternoon, standing at six feet four. The 5 foot 10 Danjuma, however, lacks some of the same presence.
Beto is undoubtedly the person to call if Dyche tries to stir things up, which would be possible considering Calvert-Lewin’s recent difficulties.
