Unai Emery to block sale of £90k-per-week midfielder to Everton
According to reports, Unai Emery is likely to stop a number of players from leaving Aston Villa during the impending January transfer window.
Villa is currently having a great 2023–24 season. They are well positioned in the league rankings and
have qualified for the Europa Conference League knockout stages.
Emery is more concerned with bolstering the team with signings than letting players depart.
Football Insider has been informed by a trustworthy source that Aston Villa’s
club executives understand the value of having a deep squad, especially with the tough schedule they have coming up.
Leander Dendoncker, who recently played against Arsenal as a substitute, may be kept at Villa Park.
The Belgium international Dendoncker is reportedly paid £90,000 per week and has a contract with the team until June 2027.
Dendoncker, a midfield player who has made 10 appearances for a total of 143 minutes this season, has apparently attracted the attention of Everton.
Although other players like Robin Olsen, Calum Chambers, and Bertrand Traore have all played little, Emery and the club’s administration are hesitant to let go of too many bench warmers.
Having a deep squad is crucial when fighting on several fronts because you will inevitably take a few hits and develop soft tissue issues.
