Cowboys Predicted to Have WR Poached in ‘Desperation Move’

WR Poached

The Dallas Cowboys are doing well on the wide receiver depth chart with NFL Week 14 quickly approaching, and it’s all because of some good fortune and a lot of patience. The club is satisfied with Michael Gallup or Jaleen Tolbert at No. 3, Brandon Cooks has established himself as the No. 2 spot, and CeeDee Lamb has been the star leading guy the team needs. Veteran returner Martavis Bryant, one of the Cowboys’ midseason additions, has not been activated off the practice squad because he has not been required.

Though Bryant was a one-time star for the Steelers and Raiders before substance abuse led to his suspension in late 2018, missing four seasons, it is possible that a desperate outside team could look to make a move on him now that he is back in the NFL for a month after the commissioner ended his suspension.

Bleacher Report speculates that Bryant would be interested in them in the AFC playoffs. The website is pushing the Chargers to sign Martavis Bryant off the Cowboys practice squad. The Chargers are struggling at wide receiver as they attempt to overcome insurmountable odds and sneak into the postseason with a 5-8 record.

This season, wide receivers Mike Williams and Joshua Palmer have been greatly missed by the Chargers. While Keenan Allen has been outstanding, youngster Quentin Johnston still needs to improve, and there isn’t much depth behind them.

The Chargers can afford to act desperate at this stage. Although the 6’4″, 210-pound vertical threat Martavis Bryant hasn’t played since 2018, he is still a member of the Cowboys practice squad and may be worth a look.

Yes, Bryant was a game-changing wideout when he was at his best. After being selected in the fourth round, he went on to catch 76 receptions and record 14 touchdowns, including plays of 94 and 88 yards, in his first two eye-opening seasons in Pittsburgh.

But he struggled to stay away from substance abuse, and after multiple suspensions, the league finally gave him an indefinite suspension in 2018, while he was playing for the Raiders.

‘Really Dark Places’ Before Cowboys

Martavis Bryant was asked where his five-year suspension had taken him when he first joined the Cowboys last month.

“To some really dark places and times, man, some places you can’t even imagine,” he remarked. You know, I really don’t want to talk about it because I had to put in a lot of effort to get through those times. But for me, it was a difficult period.

But he worked hard to maintain his sobriety while working his way through the Arena League and the XFL, two minor leagues that fell short of the NFL. His stint in the Arena League was brief. He was not a big fan of the receiver’s ability to run into a wall when going out of bounds.

“I started in the Arena Football League, it was different for me. I ran into the wall so I had to give it up, I was like, I can’t do this,” he said.

After a stint in the XFL, Bryant said, he first had to clear a path to a return through Roger Goodell’s NFL office. That involved a trove of meetings, as well as a focus on his sobriety. But he managed to get back into the NFL.

Bryant clarified, “I had to go through a process and do steps to maintain my sobriety.” “Hanging around with my advisor. completing the tasks assigned to me in order to demonstrate my change. I’m proud of the effort I put in, man. To begin with, my experience began with the NFL, where I had to undergo six months of testing, counselling, and fulfilling numerous requests.

A 53-man roster would be the next stage in Martavis Bryant’s career. With someone, if not with the Cowboys.
