Cowboys Make Decision on Signing Ex-Eagles Super Bowl LVII Veteran
The Dallas Cowboys have decided on a former player for the Philadelphia Eagles.
Dallas is considering the possibility of signing former Eagles defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh, according to Sports Illustrated’s Mike Fisher, a Cowboys insider. The 36-year-old veteran, who played with the Eagles during their journey to Super Bowl LVII in 2022, is still free agent.
There is a hole for the Dallas Cowboys. However, Fisher wrote on Monday, December 11 that “they have a plan—and no, we’re told it does not include the off-the-couch signing of Ndamukong Suh.”
Ndamukong Suh Wants to Play During 2023 Season
The former five-time Pro Bowler and All-Pro pick has been insistent about participating in his 14th NFL season. Suh, who has been working on Sky Sports’ NFL coverage from London, disclosed that the Baltimore Ravens had expressed interest in him in October.
The Ravens met with me last week, so they appeared interested and performed admirably today, according to Suh. “You never know.” We’ll see when we return to the United States, meet with the wife and family, settle down, and continue our training.
Suh also revealed what will be a determining factor in where he decides to play.
“Where’s the right fit? Where’s the right opportunity? Where can I go and add value? I don’t just want to sit there and watch other guys be successful,” Suh said. “Have options, that’s the key, and make decisions from there.”
Ndamukong Suh Signed With Eagles Midway Through 2022 Season
The former Defensive Rookie of the Year took a similar approach last year. He sat out training camp and waited until November to sign with the Eagles. He appeared in eight regular season games and racked up 10 tackles with one sack while appearing in 35% of the defensive snaps.
He also appeared in three playoff games — including the Super Bowl loss to the Kansas City Chiefs — and played in at least 20% of the defensive snaps during all three of those games.
Suh won the Super Bowl at the end of the 2020 season while playing for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, therefore he already has the ring. Between 2019 and 2021, he played three seasons with Tampa Bay, where he recorded 112 tackles and 14.5 sacks in 49 starts.
Throughout his 13-year career, which included stops with the Detroit Lions, Miami Dolphins, and Los Angeles Rams, Suh has amassed 600 tackles and 71.5 sacks in 199 games and 191 starts. He also played in the Rams’ 2018 season-ending Super Bowl LII defeat to the New England Patriots.
Having said that, although it would make for a great storyline, it appears unlikely that a former Eagles star like Suh will join the Cowboys, who are presently leading the NFC East and vying for a Super Bowl spot. Shaquille Leonard, a three-time Pro Bowl linebacker, was recently signed by Philadelphia after the team defeated Dallas in the sweepstakes. Put another way, it would be a pleasant little payback for the Cowboys to sign Suh.
As we approach Week 15, the likelihood of Suh playing his 14th season in 2023 is beginning to fade given how close the season is to ending.
