Coach of the Cowboys Mike McCarthy is expected to be out against the Eagles due to appendicitis.
Dallas Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy is recovering from appendix surgery, he is expected to be sidelined for Sunday night’s eagerly awaited showdown with Philadelphia.
McCarthy was hospitalized, according to the squad, following Wednesday morning’s stomach problems.
It was anticipated that he would undergo surgery in the afternoon and be discharged in the evening.
Defensive coordinator Dan Quinn, a former head coach in Atlanta, addressed reporters during
McCarthy’s regularly scheduled news conference Wednesday.
Offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer was expected to handle those duties Thursday.
McCarthy, who turned 60 last month, is in his fourth season as coach of the Cowboys but first as the play-caller.
Quinn didn’t want to address a contingency plan for play-calling since he was expecting McCarthy to be available for the game.
In the NFC East, the Cowboys (9-3) are behind the Eagles (10-2) by one game. Dallas enters the rematch riding a 14-game home winning streak and needs to win to keep realistic hopes of unseating Philadelphia for the division title.
In Philadelphia, the Eagles prevailed 28–23 in the first encounter.
